3 June 2023 Saturday

I selected this project which I saw at the SHIFT conference because I liked how the architects borrow part of the street on occasion to host a communal event or public exhibition. Their take on this was that it is borrowed temporarily only, and aimed to serve a communal good.

We have using the office kitchen to host meals for friends. I offered to cook lunch for PS as it was her birthday yesterday. She accepted immediately so it was the usual suspects from the newsletter plus two new members of the PAMSC committee. I thought a warm invitation with a hot meal cooked by me would be an excellent ice breaker for future collaborations.

We chatted until 4pm, talking about mutual friends, work, future plans. The women offered frank opinions about setting up a new practice, getting work, getting work done, etc. Sam thought that such open sharing by older architects and designers is eye opening for some because their current work situation might be rather secretive.

Chun Leong summed it up nicely saying that were interested in helping young architects to fly, to take off as opposed to the older employers who looking to land, and pack up their wings.
