Continuing a 'tradition' of Chinese New Year dinners at Louise's place because she has a lovely house with a back yard terrace that fits all of us, and also because she is good company. Last year's wildcard entry was Sean's plus one; Stephenie who was replaced by Keith this year - his contribution to dinner was his Dayak charm, and some seaweed crackers. The other outlier was Evon, Ivy's younger sister whom I always look forward to meeting her as she is genuine and full of out-loud laughter.
This year's dinner was garnished with readings of Robyn's SKINFUL by Sam, Louise and Eng Hooi - we have never had a book written about us before so it was quite an occasion.
Eng Hooi talked about cooking with his mom, and how he would grind chillies with a stone metate or mill. AS he was explaining the process, he also started to describe the parts of the mill and they worked together. I have used one when helping my grandma, so was able to sketch one for the record.
