9.11.2024 Saturday - running free

It is Saturday, so I run downtown for breakfast with Si Yong (it is his birthday) and our new Taiwanese friends. Only the family of 4 show up, the other one is a bit of a loner he does not join us.

It is a good run, several hills and along the way, I meet Patrick and Yanti waiting for their girls to complete a school road race. During breakfast, I get a call reminding me that squash is ON, so I play squash for an hour. After which, my energy quota for the whole is depleted. It is a good feeling.

14 Aug 2022 Sunday - children

Sam took this photo of us - I wasn't aware of its existence until recently.

It is not a particularly well taken photo; the focus isn't great and the light pole is in the way. But I like it - Sam caught me walking out of the frame; a parent leaving his children as they grow up. They are sharing a laugh, a joke long forgotten (although I suspect that if I ask Sean, he'd remember). It reminded me of something he said at lunch, about how Sara would refer to him for an opinion about someone, or advice about something.

They have grown closer over the past two years, and that's something to be grateful for. And write down on an uneventful Sunday.

Birds of a same feather

These drawings are done by mentor and good friend, Marcel; I knew he is a good architect but did not know that he is a good painter as well. Not until these series of drawings were send to me, they are part of 80 in his bird series; each finished in pen, pencil, wash and crayon.

I have not seen Marcel for more than ten years; he now lives in Canada with his family. This photo of him was taken when we were working in the same firm; as part of a photo record of all the people in the office. I took this picture of him while he was busy preening himself; getting his cuffs straight and so forth.

Moments later when he was ready, I took some posed shots of him.

But this is still my favourite because I remember he was humming to himself - obviously happy to be in the centre of all the attention.
