7.10.2024 Monday - much to do

But can't complain, because work is a blessing. Some of us understand that better than others, but they will soon learn when they grow up. Freddie drops by and we chat about the additional details needed for the lift lobbies, and the pool, and the toilets, and the roof, and so forth. The delight is that we are able to resolve these problems/ details by talking and sketching on the large printed sheets. Even PH was able to contribute when he stopped over for a browse - he helped me resolve the canopy of the drop off.

Later we sit at opposite end of the conference table and draw over the CAD print out for several hours.

25th April 2023 Tuesday - drawing in small sketchbooks

re planning a scheme we had earlier sent to the client because we thought of a better idea

I have decided (a bit late) that drawing in sketchbook and colouring them (not necessary for information, it is for me) is good therapy for me. I enjoy the habit of drawing in sketch books while Sam drinks her tea, or when dinner has been eaten, or while waiting for my ride, or just to be alone for a while with my thoughts.

15 Aug 2022 Monday - middle of the month

It is the middle of the month, but I am not in the new office yet. It is still a bit too smelly and dusty. But my table looks good by the window - though it will eventually move elsewhere in the office.

So instead of working from the new office, I stayed at the club after tennis and worked productively until lunch time.

We met up with Freddie and George, who was in town for a week. George worked with us for 3 years before leaving for KL and Part 2 studies. I expected him to be a little more hardened by his KL and Part 2 experience, but he is still the same smiley-soft spoken George. He is taking time off and applied to one place for work - he wants to stay in KL as his fiancĂ© has a permanent job there.

For some reason, I did not feel like working anymore for the rest of the day. I had done enough over the weekend. So, we came home and I prepared another 'workstation' in our bedroom; to take advantage of the aircon and also it has a nice backdrop of books.

6 March 2022 Sunday A busy weekend

thinking about possible screens for an old shophouse

Sketches in an A3 sketchbook bought from IKEA (I think it is for children to draw in with crayons) - there are many pages, they are quite thin but it takes fountain pen ink well. I am going to make it a habit to sketch and scribble in it each night in front of the TV or each morning when I come downstairs.

Sketching freely helps me to explore more. It is a good habit to cultivate, even at my age and this stage of my career. I will pass these on to one of the young ones to CAD, so that it stays in our database.

20 December 2021

We started dining out again recently, and invited friends to celebrate Sam's birthday - this is us on the way from the club to CityOne. It was raining, I had my notebook on my lap so I sketched the scenes as they appeared in the windscreen. Sam was driving too fast in the rain (she won't listen).

Coloured in on ipad

Monday was a teaching day, Tay drives me to the uni, we give him cookies, fruitcake and other goodies in repayment. He and I make a good team, we combine our groups and guide the twenty or so Year 2 students through Architectural Design. This morning, each student was asked to talk about the 6 marquettes they produced; the inspiration behind the forms, how to derive a plan or section from these - it was enjoyable and created a lot of discussion (which it what we wanted to encourage).
Barry's models
From Saturday. Dog pool - recycling rainwater for dogs to play in. Recycling roof tiles for a garden wall.

Site notes : quite dramatic changes to the TV room, but it's for the better.

The spout comes in at an awkward angle, I could have changed it but the construction was quite advanced when I saw it, and I thought this would be a nice challenge for young Sandra.

Thinking about how to extend the floor to include a verandah.
