6.10.2024 Sunday - new watch, new plans?

Quite a milestone today, running 5K into town at a fair pace to meet Lance and Yasmin. All 5 kilometres are under 7 min pace - so I am happy with myself. Furthermore, Sam has bought a new watch with GPS, and it can sync with my phone which gives a print out like this one above.

She has blossomed (again) and we talk about her plans to return to Kuching in the future.

Later that evening, we get a full house at No. 40 - dining with Eric and newcomer, Na-na who is a lecturer from China teaching Art Management at UNIMAS. Eric talks about the future of his collaborations in Kuching, about some people he would rather not work with any longer. I have not seen him so agitated, I think it affects him mostly when he feels that his assistants/students are taken advantage of.

29.3.2024 Friday - good running

I wake mentally prepared for a long run, despite waking later than my normal time of 6 a.m. (I prefer to run in the dark). Nevertheless, it goes surprisingly well, and in barefoot shoes - all the way to town and back to the club for a shower and a sit down to wait for Sam and breakfast.

One of our projects pay us - it is a substantial amount and we celebrate with a quiet Japanese dinner on our own, at a new place. I like it especially because the owners seem to take good care of the cats in the area.

7th July 2023 Friday - Flash Friday

We have been doing FLASH and NEWS for more than 2 years now; and although it has become easier to produce each issue, it has been harder to gather articles behind the scenes. This is what SY meant when he talked about the sustainability of the newsletter and some of the other events which we organised. Once we stop having an interest to continue, there is no one to take over. Expecting volunteers to take on such a big responsibility is unrealistic, one way to continue would to be to do it through a private entity.

Late that night  - I decided to start my morning walk-runs again. Let's see how I go, the vibrams need a dusting off.

2 Feb 2022 Wed running again

found in the envelope with the duilian from Eunice

Last year, on the second day of the Chinese New Year we (I) decided to eat less meat and started a vegetarian diet with seafood.

This morning, I decided that I should start running regularly again. I made concessions for myself; allowing walk breaks and slower pace. But I will do this for a year and see if there are results; I should really weigh myself and all that - let's see.

This appeared in the chat group at the end of the first day - someone (maybe Jenny) organised this with interns from KL, Singapore, Taipei and Kuching. Very thoughtful.
