We found out today that we'll get taxed if we sold the family home within a year after its transfer to us. So, that put a stop to the idea of selling it and sharing the proceeds amongst the siblings and mom. 

Which got Sam and I thinking about 'what if we bought it from my siblings?'. We don't really need another house, and I don't have much sentimental feelings related to it. But it will be a cheap purchase as I have a share in it, and I have some ideas about how to re-design its internal spaces.
