12.4.2024 Friday - early start, late finish
At noon, I visit a new gym to discuss their offer of a 21-day fitness challenge - it seems that I have to pay a deposit which they can forfeit if I don't achieve the desired results (1-kg minimum or 2% body fat loss). I have a look at their gym, like what I see and sign up.
I spend the afternoon drawing details on butter-paper, which I enjoy tremendously. Fiona can issue these on Monday.

22.2.2024 Thursday - sorting out site issues
Sorting out site issues through two types of communication; drawing and talking. People forget that one of the most important skill that an architect must possess is the ability to communicate ideas, opinions, instructions in a clear and concise manner. While the most visible of this communication that we see is in the form of drawings and sketches, the majority of it is conducted via the written or the spoken word. The communication continues through the project; during the contract documentation, during construction - written in emails and faxes, on pieces of carboard and on drywall. It is one of the most time consuming tasks in our work, and one that is not taught in detail in schools.

16.1.2024 Tuesday - sunny with afternoon thunderstorms

View of the condominiums, part of the clubhouse is visible. It is a concrete structure with a planted grass roof
The phone call comes when I'm in the Grab-car, in heavy downpour on the way to the cab. 'Can you come to my office now?'. I usually don't decline this client but it's been a long day and I am already late for my squash game.
I'll call you tomorrow - and ring off. It feels good to say no, to have a semblance of control although I do keep an eye out for messages throughout the evening. Still, it felt good to say 'no' when I didn't want to do what I was told to do.
Earlier today, I did what I should have done several weeks previous; to have a site meeting for the condominiums. Though combative in parts, we do see a light at the end of the tunnel.

We made a model to confirm that the client understood our initial ideas for the school
After lunch, we do what we want to: to present the updated scheme for the school. We made a cardboard model, and lucky we did as it confirmed some key ideas.

15th July 2023 Saturday - borrowed family

Reminder to focus on our projects on site, planning to get Sean involved more as he starts to document the serviced apartments.
We had given money for his dad's operation, and I thought that he would not mention our involvement with his father. But he did, I wondered why - Sam thought it was to reassure his father that there are other forms of help from 'family', so that his father would not worry about this unexpected expenditure.
That evening, we cooked dinner and E came with her sister; I was very pleased to see and told her so - we need you back in town. She is lovely and I think a bit lonely as well. Later we talked about spanning 14 metres and ways to reduce beam depths. Sam also talked to P about sponsoring gym sessions.

On the days when I don't exercise are the days when I feel restless towards the end of the day, my mood darkened with the skies when an evening run was not likely. I walked home in the light drizzle, I look forward to dinner at home - it is a simple pleasure one I continue to relish.
