16.1.2024 Tuesday - sunny with afternoon thunderstorms

View of the condominiums, part of the clubhouse is visible. It is a concrete structure with a planted grass roof

The phone call comes when I'm in the Grab-car, in heavy downpour on the way to the cab. 'Can you come to my office now?'. I usually don't decline this client but it's been a long day and I am already late for my squash game.

I'll call you tomorrow - and ring off. It feels good to say no, to have a semblance of control although I do keep an eye out for messages throughout the evening. Still, it felt good to say 'no' when I didn't want to do what I was told to do.

Earlier today, I did what I should have done several weeks previous; to have a site meeting for the condominiums. Though combative in parts, we do see a light at the end of the tunnel.

We made a model to confirm that the client understood our initial ideas for the school

After lunch, we do what we want to: to present the updated scheme for the school. We made a cardboard model, and lucky we did as it confirmed some key ideas.

7.1.2024 Sunday - Sean taught me Enscape

After a long break from this project, I finally find the time to sit down and go through the drawings RF and J. Ho prepare. To my surprise, the work is substantial and quite complete so I spend only the day to finalise the 3D and render them in this format, for a design report.
Sean shows me how to render this way, when struggling with it this morning at the dining table. I should have looked at this work earlier, and completed this before the end of last year.

Lesson: look at work prepared for me as soon as it is given to me, most times it takes only a short time to resolve the problems within. Better lesson even, is to sit with that designer and talk it through immediately, especially if it is a small project.

8th August 2023 Tuesday - DATUM:M a personal account

Another early start, to finish this article before seeing Freddie at 8 a.m. - he was waiting outside the office when Sean and I arrived at 7:50 a.m.. A quick chat about how to do and who to do it (Tecktonicity office block) before meeting Donald and Da for breakfast. I much prefer chatting with these two, I suggested catching up in KL with Mike and Naz - Don agrees.

I passed the Riverhouse to Syahidah so that Joanne can concentrate on the school proposal. Sean had a good outing at the Stampin house and his client paid our fee claim after one day. I got the housing group to photocopy toilet layouts they like from books - because they don't seem to know how to lay out a toilet.

Later that afternoon, we had a chat to the school principal about our concepts - it is good practice for Sean and Joanne.
